The Perfect Storm

There is nothing perfect about the Perfect Storm – That is Hollywood selling a bunch of bullshit tickets and trinkets.

But today various elements conspired to hit with a 1-2-3 punch. The legs were tired, the rain on the tent this morning, the snoring from the site next to me (hopefully I gave as good as I got), the out of date tin of lentils all colluded to say enough. It was time for a rest, find a motel and park up for the day. So I did.

However, not before seeing the Bayeux Tapestry. Any English schoolboy has been taught about the Tapestry that tells the Norman story of the 1066 conquest of England. After leaving Omaha Beach, I was there at 9am or so and , thank goodness, there was no queue. It is pretty amazing, almost a thousand years old and in good condition. It exceeded my expectations. In some ways it completed the link between a 12 year old boy and an aging cyclist.

As for the rest of the day, well, it was spent resting, maintaining the bike and getting food for the next few days.

Cheers.
