Can’t Escape the D Day Landings

For the last four days, there have been constant reminders of the D-Day landings and subsequent fighting. Some of it is quite informative and sobering.

But there’s always going to be some over the top dramatics. This poster was for an exposition being held right next to where I camped two nights ago on Omaha Beach. I didn’t go in.

I cycled (actually walked my bike) over the Pegasus Bridge, where the 3 gliders came and captured the bridge. Today it was carrying non stop traffic, hence the walking. It has a restaurant or two, themed in D-Day motifs, on one side.

By the way, the image up top is a part of the Mulberry Harbour. There are quite a few of these still around.

Today a lot of the coast deals in tourism with restaurants touting for business. As for the cycling, it’s a beautiful area – if with some hills that strain the muscles.
