Resort to Plan A

When Plan B fails, revert to Plan A. Dinan turned out to be such a lovely surprise I thought I’d stay another day. Minor problem, the place I was stayed closed that day for a week “Ferme pour une Semaine” (It’s a worry, I’m beginning to think in French). So no worries I’ll head to Saint-Malo and spend the day there as originally planned.

After a quick 2 hour cycle I took the ferry 10 minute ferry across to Saint-Malo – and left Saint Malo about just as quickly. It alright if you like a crowded high fashion branded shopping centre dressed up in old buildings, but after the quiet bikeways, it was a bit much so …

Plan C. Go check out Mont Saint Michel. I dutifully followed the Eurovelo 4 route to the Mont and near the causeway noticed lots and lots of bikes parked and thought “why are they all here?”

Well I was about 1.5 k along the causeway when I was ‘politely’ informed no bicycles allowed and directed to walk back down the causeway. A bit embarrassing really but then noboby’s going to remember who I am – or are they? The Mont is an impressive looking place and would be great to visit on a quiet day but I think it’s a bit too much like a honeypot to the bees for the tourists.

So now, suddenly I’m 2 days ahead of where I thought I’d be. Maybe Bayeux is now on the agenda. Got to see the tapestry and check out King Harold with an arrow in his eye….
