3 Stages of History

Last night I did some serious replaning of my route. I didn’t want another gruelling day along the ups and downs of a D road, so I actually looked at the local attractions map and thought, “Yep, that’ll do.”

And it did. I followed an old waterway for some 50 kms before heading over to Omaha Beach. The local river was once navigable many years ago but the locks were no longer of any use. It was also one of the paths by which the Normandy Invasion went inland and along the bike path was dozens of large personal images from the war with descriptions in French and English. This photo (below) sums up the 3 very different times. Canal Industry, War and today’s quieter times (let’s hope they stay that way)
