This is a picture taken about 110 years ago. It’s of a barque that traded between Cardiff, Wales and Redon, France. It would take Coal from Wales and return with Mine Props for Wales. To me what is more remarkable is that we’re at least 100 kilometres from the sea.
Of course, today the same quay is filled with pleasure craft and the trade has long gone. Such is history.
Well today was a very pleasant ride, in fact I’d been seduced into a general feeling of all’s well with the world when the route I was following decided that it was time for something different – as in follow the motorways, not the canals. But I’m in camp again although the washing machines cost more than the camping. Trust me this was a required expense to spare anyone I came close to.
The French couple on the tent pitch next to me are having an animated discussion, fuelled on his part by a bottle of red. Could be an interesting night.
