200 Ks down and how many to go?

Well, I’ve made it to Harwich for the overnight ferry to Holland. Aaron is no doubt enjoying himself in Brighton and I’ve recovered from spending too much time in the Pub with him.

Jet lag, a 4am start and hangover don’t make for the best cycling. However I was thru London by 7:30 and following the Lee Valley up to Harlow.

Now, I’ve cycled this route before and there’s a section coming into Colchester that I always thought was sold disused railway cutting. This time I stopped to read one of the signs along the way and, it was actually an Iron Age fortification ditch repurposed by the Romans as a moat and nowadays a cycle track.

Another surprise, and a pleasant one, was an 14 century church I stopped by this morning. (Okay so the reason I stopped by wasn’t religious but more to do with the legs saying rest time) Anyway, inside the church was a table with coffee and teas and a help yourself sign. In chatting to a local who came by, I discovered that there were about 20,000 people buried around the church and that was why the land around the church was higher than the church – maybe he was having me on.

Oh – one other thing, a slight change of plans, I’ve decided to head down to the Loire after Belgium….not sure if I’ll get to Linz
